Student Leadership in Focus as ESAN OAU Rolls Out Ife Education Parliamentary Summit 2.0


The Education Students Association of Nigeria (ESAN), through its Students Representative Council, is set to host the second edition of the Ife Education Parliamentary Summit (IEPS 2.0) on Friday, June 20, 2025.


The highly anticipated summit, themed “Empowering Student Leaders: How Education Reforms and Youth Policy Can Drive Economic Growth,” will take place at the EDM Boardroom by 9:00 a.m. It promises to be a dynamic gathering of student leaders, policy influencers, and change-makers across academia, government, and civic society.

The summit aims to inspire actionable conversations around educational transformation and youth policy as tools for national economic development. Featured speakers include esteemed scholars and policymakers such as Prof. T.O. Bello, Dean of the Faculty of Education, and Hon. Sanmi Areoye, a distinguished member of the Osun State House of Assembly.

Also joining the conversation are development advocate Com. Segun Oduyebo, Founder of Destiny Development Initiative, and several prominent student leaders including Rt. Hon. Azeez Fakorede , Speaker of the ESRC OAU, Rt. Hon. Oladapo Olakunle, Speaker of the Great Ife Students’ Union, and 
Rt. Hon. Ganiyu Yusuf (KOB), President of the Nigerian Students’ Legislative Council.

According to the organizing committee, the summit is structured to provide student leaders with practical insight into how legislative processes, education policy, and youth empowerment intersect to influence economic growth. It will feature keynote addresses, a high-level panel discussion, and interactive sessions aimed at deepening civic awareness and legislative understanding among students.

Speaking ahead of the event, Rt. Hon. Adeoluwa, Chair of the Planning Committee, emphasized the importance of youth involvement in policy dialogue:

 “IEPS 2.0 is not just a summit; it is a movement to equip student leaders with the tools, knowledge, and platforms necessary to actively influence policies and reforms that shape their futures.”

The Education Parliamentary Summit continues to serve as a model for student-driven policy advocacy and intellectual engagement on the Obafemi Awolowo University campus and beyond.
