Cement Prices in Nigeria Today – Here’s the Latest Update

Given recent developments concerning cement prices in Nigeria, it's essential to gain a thorough understanding of the current market rates offered by major cement producers. 

Despite agreements between the Federal Government and manufacturers, discrepancies in prices have arisen, prompting a closer examination of the pricing landscape across the industry.

Understanding Cement Price Agreements:
Initial agreements involving prominent cement producers like BUA, Dangote, Lafarge, Ibeto, and others, in conjunction with the Federal Government, aimed to establish a pricing framework. The agreement stated that a 50kg bag of cement should be priced between N7,000 and N8,000.

Retailers’ Compliance with Price Agreements:
Despite the outlined agreements, reports indicate that many retailers are not adhering to the agreed-upon price range. Instances of cement being sold at significantly higher rates, such as N7,000 to N8,500 per bag in areas like Idimu, Lagos, raise concerns about the enforcement and implementation of the agreed pricing structure.

Insights from Market Observations:
A closer examination of current market prices reveals significant disparities from the agreed-upon rates. Here's a breakdown of the prevailing prices offered by key cement producers:

- Dangote Cement Plc: Prices range from N7,000 to N8,500 per bag.

- Lafarge Africa Plc: Cement is available within the price bracket of N7,000 to N8,000 per bag.

- BUA Cement: Retail prices vary from N6,500 to N7,500 per bag.

- UNICEM Cement: Prices fluctuate between N6,000 and N7,000 per bag.

- Ibeto Cement: Retail prices range from N6,500 to N7,000 per bag.

FLASH: OAU Grieves As Another Student Dies

Tijani Abdulkareem Students of Obafemi Awolowo University OAU, Ile Ife, could not hold back their tears as a 300-level student, Aliu Asisat Olashile, from Faculty of Pharmacy is dead.  It was learnt that the deceased passed away on Tuesday night, and the cause of her death was not disclosed. The leadership Pharmaceutical Muslim Students' Society of Nigeria, OAU, confirmed this in a statement on Wednesday on their official social media handle.  According to the statement,  "We are displeased to announce the demise of Sister Azeezat. Tragedy As Missing OAU Student Killed By Ritualist

Tijani Abdulkareem The decomposed body of 18-year-old Quadri Salami, a 100-level student at Obafemi Awolowo University, who had been missing since November, was discovered in a shallow grave in Mile 6, Ajemo area of Abeokuta. Two suspected ritualists, Akeem Usman and Ifadowo Niyi, confessed to slaughtering the victim, dismembering his body parts, and selling them for rituals.  Niyi allegedly took Salami's head and wrists, paying N100,000 to Usman. The suspects continued selling other body parts to internet fraudsters, burying the heart, legs, and flesh for rituals. The police, led by Commissioner Abiodun Alamutu, exhumed the body parts after tracing a clue to Akeem, arrested with the victim's phone.  The suspects admitted using four other human heads for money rituals. They are in custody, facing prosecution, as the police vow to ensure justice and eradicate such crimes.
