Cement Prices in Nigeria Today – Here’s the Latest Update

Given recent developments concerning cement prices in Nigeria, it's essential to gain a thorough understanding of the current market rates offered by major cement producers.

Despite agreements between the Federal Government and manufacturers, discrepancies in prices have arisen, prompting a closer examination of the pricing landscape across the industry.

Understanding Cement Price Agreements:
Initial agreements involving prominent cement producers like BUA, Dangote, Lafarge, Ibeto, and others, in conjunction with the Federal Government, aimed to establish a pricing framework. The agreement stated that a 50kg bag of cement should be priced between N7,000 and N8,000.

Retailers’ Compliance with Price Agreements:
Despite the outlined agreements, reports indicate that many retailers are not adhering to the agreed-upon price range. Instances of cement being sold at significantly higher rates, such as N7,000 to N8,500 per bag in areas like Idimu, Lagos, raise concerns about the enforcement and implementation of the agreed pricing structure.

Insights from Market Observations:
A closer examination of current market prices reveals significant disparities from the agreed-upon rates. Here's a breakdown of the prevailing prices offered by key cement producers:

- Dangote Cement Plc: Prices range from N7,000 to N8,500 per bag.

- Lafarge Africa Plc: Cement is available within the price bracket of N7,000 to N8,000 per bag.

- BUA Cement: Retail prices vary from N6,500 to N7,500 per bag.

- UNICEM Cement: Prices fluctuate between N6,000 and N7,000 per bag.

- Ibeto Cement: Retail prices range from N6,500 to N7,000 per bag.

He was equally examined and no realignment of gender or genital organ was discovered. The male biological features were the same.

"After that, a cell was allocated to him, and he had a certain number of inmates with him. A bed space was also allotted to him. It is just like a boarding house where your housemaster will issue you your personal belongings.

"When it is time for class, he attends. When it is time for food, he will go and get his portion. The same goes with prep and light out. He observes all these without preference. He has been going about his business just like other inmates since he was brought in here.

"He is not getting any five-star treatment and is not being protected from anybody. He follows the same rules and regulations just like every other inmate. Single cells of isolation cells are to prevent outbreaks of communicable diseases. In a male prison, homosexuality is outlawed and it is a grievous offence. Sodomy or homosexuality, is frowned upon here in the custodial centre. So any inmate that tries to violate him will face the law."

JUST IN: EFCC Arrests Cross-Dresser Bobrisky In Lagos

A popular cross-dresser, Okuneye Idris Olanrewaju, popularly known as Bobrisky was arrested on Wednesday evening by personnel of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in Lagos State.

This was confirmed by the agency’s spokesman, Mr Dele Oyewale in a telephone conversation with SaharaReporters on Thursday morning.

According to the EFCC spokesman, Bobrisky was arrested for mutilation of naira notes and not for his lifestyle as a cross-dresser.

“It is true our boys arrested him yesterday evening in Lagos for naira abuse. We don't have anything to do with his lifestyle (being a cross-dresser). He was suspected of committing an economic crime and that was the reason for his arrest,” Oyewale explained.

Bobrisky’s arrest comes barely 24 hours after the Nigeria Police Force stated that it lacked enough evidence to arrest him for same-sex activities.

The Nigeria Police Force on Tuesday said it could not arrest Bobrisky over calls to arrest the crossdresser.

There have been calls for Bobrisky’s arrest, especially after social media influencer and blogger, Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan in recent videos condemned the award of Best Dressed Female to the cross-dresser at a Nollywood event.

However, the Force Public Relations Officers, Olumuyiwa Ademola told Channels TV on Tuesday that cross-dressers cannot be arrested because Nigeria has no law against cross-dressing.

He also said there is no evidence to support claims that cross-dressers also belong to the LGBTQ+ community.

He said, “There are some cases that are always very difficult to prove.

“I’m not ruling out that we have many of them. Let us be reasonable, you can’t have someone you want to prosecute without having credible evidence against them. I have not read anywhere where cross-dressing is an offence in Nigeria.

“Some of them that are into cross-dressing, the allegation is that they are into something else.

“That’s where the problem lies. We need to have enough proof, credible evidence to prove that they are actually into that. All those offences are natural offences in Nigeria and they are punishable under our laws.”

The Same-Sex Marriage (Prohibition) Bill was signed into law in Nigeria on January 7, 2014, by then-President Goodluck Jonathan.

The law criminalises public displays of affection between same-sex couples.

The law imposes a 14-year prison sentence on anyone who “[enters] into a same-sex marriage contract or civil union”. It also imposes a 10-year sentence on individuals or groups, including religious leaders, who “witness, abet, and aid the solemnization of a same-sex marriage or union.”

It imposes a 10-year prison sentence on those who “directly or indirectly make [a] public show of [a] same-sex amorous relationship” and anyone who “registers, operates, or participates in gay clubs, societies, and organizations,” including supporters of those groups.

Kano Govt Bans Movies Promoting Cross-Dressing, Hooliganism

The Kano State Government has imposed a ban on films that depict hoodlums and cross-dressing, following concerns raised by the public about certain films promoting deviant behaviour among youths in the state.

The Executive Secretary of the Kano State Censorship Board, Abba El-Mustapha, announced the ban yesterday during a briefing with journalists after a meeting between the board's management and various stakeholders from the Kannywood industry.

The meeting was aimed at curbing the production of films likely to encourage criminal activities and deviant behaviours among young people.

A statement issued by the board’s information officer, Abdullahi Sani Sulaiman, said the decision to ban such films was necessitated by public outcry, hence the need to address the production of films suspected to be promoting crimes and deviant behaviours among youths.

The statement also quoted Abba El-Mustapha to have stated that, “it is high time to fish out any film that may demoralize our customs, norms and values in the name of reaching popularity, viewers or business making.”

El-Mustapha further explained that the Board has the power to ban, suspend or prohibit the production, distribution, sale or exhibition of any film, pornographic books or publications in the state.

He urged the general public to provide relevant information to the Board on any film or publication they believe is not in accordance with the law.

BREAKING: Sunday Igboho Drags Aare Gani Adams To Court, Seeks N500m Damages

Yoruba Nation activist, Sunday Adeyemo, aka Sunday Igboho, has dragged the Aare Onakakanfo of Yorubaland, Iba Gani Adams, to court over alleged defamation of character.

Igboho dragged Adams before an Oyo High Court sitting in Ibadan, through his team of lawyers led by J. A.Sanusi.

The separatist leader prayed that the court should award a compensation of N500 million against Adams for alleged defamatory statements against him.

Igboho said Adams accused him of being a serial killer and assassin for top politicians, including President Bola Tinubu, in an audio conversation in 2021.

Among others, Igboho prayed for an order of the court “for the payment of exemplary and aggravated damages in the sum of Five Hundred Million Naira (N500,000,000.00) in favour of the Claimant for defamation of the person of the Claimant by the Defendant. Cost of litigation put at the sum of Ten Million Naira (N10,000,000.00)”.

The court process filed by Sanusi quoted Adams as saying: “I was not against Igboho until he became close to Tinubu. You know I get my information from different angles as Aare Onakakanfo of Yorubaland.

“He was with Lagos State Governor’s Chief of Staff, Tayo Ayinde, yesternight from the information at my disposal. He left Tayo Ayinde around 2.45 am and you know Tinubu uses him (Tayo Ayinde) to coordinate criminal activities. He was compensated with the position of Chief of Staff.

“He was a former SSS (State Security Service) product. He was given money to recruit some criminals. Politicians use him (Sunday Igboho) to attack people….Tinubu will not show himself. He will call the line of the Chief of Staff.

"Tinubu already promised to give him a house in Lekki and N200 million. He is only an entertainer. Tinubu was using Sunday to get a ticket from Buhari. Tinubu is the one using Sunday. He is the most dangerous person in Oyo State.

"I am not talking of Lagos. If he sees money, there is no one he cannot kill. From the confirmed report, even though I am not sure, he was one of those who assassinated Bola Ige together with Fryo. He left Lagos 2:45 am after he collected 45,000,000 naira. Tinubu asked 10 million boys to join forces with Sunday to eliminate me....Sunday has countless murder cases where he was able to exonerate himself.

"Some of his boys are presently in prisons standing trial for different murder cases. Some of his boys were already sentenced to life imprisonment. He used political power to exonerate himself."

Igboho, however, denied the allegations while urging the court to declare the content of the audio clip as slanderous against his character.

The Yoruba Nation agitator's lawyers said it is "unlawful, inappropriate and inexcusable for the Defendant (Gani Adams) to defame, disparage and put to disrepute the character and reputation of the Claimant in an audio clip published on all new media platforms, including YouTube, in a publication that took place between the Defendant and a third party, Mr.. Nuru Banjo, sometime in November 2021 or thereabouts".

They equally asked for an order "of this honourable court directing the Defendant to publicly retract the slanderous, libelous and defamatory content contained in the publication to Nuru Banjo which was further published on all new media platforms including YouTube where the Claimant was defamed, maligned and disparaged by the Defendant in the conversation published in November 2021 by the Defendant".

Arrest Bobrisky Within A Week Or I Transform Into A Crossdresser, Use Female Guest Rooms - Popular Social Media Influencer Vows

A popular Nigerian social media critic, VeryDarkMan has promised to become a crossdresser provided transgender Bobrisky is not arrested.

Recall that VeryDarkMan earlier advocated for Bobrisky’s arrest for cross-dressing, stating that he was being shielded by certain influential politicians who happen to be his gay lovers.

Following requests to arrest crossdressers in the country, the Force Police Public Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, recently stated in an interview that the force cannot arrest transvestites since crossdressing is not a crime in Nigeria.

He stated that the force cannot act on charges that certain crossdressers are gay, a natural crime, because there is insufficient proof to punish them.

Reacting in a video message shared via his Instagram page, VeryDarkMan vowed to become a crossdresser and use the female restroom if popular crossdressers like Bobrisky are not arrested.

He claimed his recent arrest was connected to his call for Bobrisky’s arrest and claims that he was being protected by gay politicians.

He said, “When I came out of detention, I read somewhere that it was Tonto Dikeh who detained me. She can never detain me, I don’t care about her connection. The truth is that I was detained for the video I made calling for Bobrisky’s arrest and my claims that he was being protected by gay lawmakers. My detention is just a little sacrifice. They will still arrest me for my subsequent videos.

“Since the police say crossdressing is legal, I wll soon start crossdressing. I will give them one week after I drop my petition against Bobrisky. If Bobrisky is not arrested, I will become a crossdresser and use the female restroom.”

Significance of Bats on OAU Campus You Don't Know

Bats are known to be the only mammals that can fly, but they are often overlooked and misunderstood. Many myths are associated with bats, such as the saying “blind as a bat.”. This isn’t true. Bats can see quite well. Unlike destructive pets like rats and mice, bats benefit their environment. They play a crucial role in keeping ecosystems healthy.

A colony of bats could cut down on unwanted mosquitoes. The Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) campus in Ile-Ife, is uniquely known for being a niche for bats. Obafemi Awolowo University is the campus with the highest population of bats in Nigeria. Rarely will you walk around OAU without seeing a bat. They can be seen almost everywhere on the OAU campus.

It is even an offense to kill bats on the OAU campus, as demonstrated by a legal case in 2020 where a man was charged with killing a bat with a catapult without seeking permission from the school authority. While some may view them with apprehension, they are useful creatures, and they play an important role in keeping a healthy ecosystem on the campus of Obafemi Awolowo University. Understanding their importance will shed light on their vital contributions to the campus environment:

1. Pest Control:
Bats are voracious insectivores, consuming large quantities of insects every night. On the OAU campus, where lush vegetation and greenery abound, bats play a crucial role in controlling insect populations. They help keep mosquito, moth, and beetle populations in check, reducing the need for chemical pesticides and contributing to a balanced ecosystem.

2. Pollination:
In addition to consuming insects, some bat species are important pollinators. They play a role in pollinating night-blooming flowers, including those found on trees and shrubs across the OAU campus. By transferring pollen from one plant to another, bats facilitate the reproduction of various plant species, ensuring the health and diversity of the campus flora.

3. Seed Dispersal:
Bats are key players in seed dispersal, particularly for plants with fruits or seeds that are consumed and later dispersed by bats. As bats feed on fruits such as figs, guavas, and bananas, they inadvertently disperse seeds across the OAU campus landscape through their droppings. This helps in the regeneration of plant species and contributes to the overall biodiversity of the campus environment at Obafemi Awolowo University.

4. Educational Value:
Bats provide an invaluable opportunity for educational outreach and research on the OAU campus. Students and researchers have the chance to study bat behavior, ecology, and conservation biology firsthand. By engaging with these nocturnal creatures, students gain a deeper understanding of the interconnectedness of species and the importance of biodiversity conservation.

5. Malaria Reduction: Bats play a crucial role in controlling mosquitoes, thereby reducing the prevalence of malaria on the OAU campus. A colony of bats could cut down on unwanted mosquitoes in the environment they live in.

BREAKING: Child Opens Fire In Finnish School

A 12-year-old student opened fire in a gun rampage at a Finnish school this morning injuring three other minors before being arrested, police said.

Heavily armed police cordoned off the lower secondary school, with around 800 students, in the city of Vantaa - just outside the capital of Helsinki - after receiving a call about a shooting incident at 9.08am local time.

The suspect was later detained, police said, with Finnish broadcaster MTV Uutiset reporting that police caught up with them a 50-minute walk from the school.

One witness described seeing the 'small' and 'hooded' minor drop something to the floor before kneeling down as police arrived to arrest them.

The suspect was found in possession of a firearm, reports said.

Police later said that three minors were injured in the attack and that the suspect was also a child. Their identity has not been released.

Officials said that the shooter and the victims were all 12 years old (correcting earlier information that said all involved were 13 years old), while local news outlets quoted parents at the school as saying the shooting occurred inside a classroom.

Reacting to the news on Tuesday, Finland's Prime Minister Petteri Orpo said on social media that the shooting had 'deeply shocked' him.

'My thoughts are with the victims, their loved ones and the other students and staff of Viertola school,' he wrote. 'We are following the situation closely and are waiting for updated information from the authorities.'
