OAU Management Explains How They Secured the Release Of 59 OAU Students From EFCC Custody

The Management of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, has revealed that it successfully secured the release of 59 out of the 69 students who were apprehended by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). These students were detained after a late-night raid on off-campus hostels earlier in the week.

In an official statement issued on Thursday by the University's Public Relations Officer, Abiodun Olarewaju, it was explained that, aside from parents and guardians who worked to secure the release of their children and wards, the university's administration played a significant role in ensuring the freedom of the remaining students.

The Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Adebayo Simeon BAMIRE, expressed gratitude to the EFCC for swiftly processing and releasing the students within a mere twenty-four hours. He also urged the EFCC to collaborate with higher education institutions to organize workshops across different faculties, educating students about the perils of financial crimes and cybercriminal activities.

Furthermore, the Vice Chancellor appealed to the students who endured the ordeal to put it behind them and move forward with their lives. He commended their peers who supported the affected students, exemplifying unity and peaceful coexistence without resorting to violence or vandalism.
