Peseiro expresses determination for success in Nigeria vs Cameroon Preview

José Peseiro, Nigeria's coach, said the super eagles team is determined for a victory in the Africa Cup of Nations round-of-16 clash against Cameroon scheduled for today at 9 pm (Nigerian time) at Stade Felix Houphouet-Boigny in Abidjan, unfazed by historical challenges.

Peseiro stated, "It’s a difficult match, but we want to win and stay in this tournament until the end."

Nigeria secured second place in Group A, unbeaten, with a 1-1 draw against Equatorial Guinea, a 1-0 win over Cote d’Ivoire, and a similar result against Guinea-Bissau. Cameroon finished second in Group C, drawing 1-1 with Guinea, losing 3-1 to Senegal, and winning a hard-fought 3-2 comeback over The Gambia.

Despite both teams having eight AFCON titles combined, recent Nigeria vs Cameroon meetings have favored the Super Eagles. Peseiro emphasized, "We want to score a goal and maintain our lead. Even if the statistics are not for us, we are going to play. It is a mission that has been entrusted to us."

Nigerian winger Moses Simon highlighted the team's improvement since 2019, stating, "We know they are strong, and I think today they are better than in 2019, and we also improved as well. We know their weak points, and so we will take the match as it comes."

Cameroon coach Rigobert Song expressed focus and readiness, saying, "We know what we need to do and where we need to go. At this stage of the competition, I think there are no more things to look for." Striker Faris Moumbagna pledged a 200% effort, emphasizing determination to give their best on the pitch.

The West African clash winner will advance to the quarterfinals, with both teams aiming to add to their AFCON trophy tallies, Nigeria eyeing a 4th title and Cameroon looking for a 6th.
