Fueling Futures, Fostering Excellence: Musab SU Welfare Officer Supports OAU Students with 4,000 Mass Feeding & 3,000 Staple Food Distribution
Students of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, have commended the Students’ Union leadership following what has been described as the largest welfare intervention in the institution’s history.
The Welfare Officer of the Great Ife Students’ Union, Osunleke Musab, led a large-scale food relief initiative that provided free meals to over 4,000 students and distributed more than 3,000 essential food items across campus.
The intervention, which coincided with the ongoing examination period and the Ramadan fasting season, was designed to ease the financial and physical strain on students. Beneficiaries received cooked meals for immediate consumption as well as staple food supplies to support them through the exam and fasting period.
Speaking on the initiative, the (PRO)of the union, Olowosile Oreoluwa, described the exercise as unprecedented.
“This marks the largest welfare intervention ever recorded on the OAU campus,” Oreoluwa stated, noting that the scale and organization of the distribution reflected a strong commitment to student wellbeing.
In his remarks, Osunleke Musab emphasized that the initiative was motivated by the current economic realities affecting students nationwide.
“Our goal was simple — no student should have to write exams or observe fasting on an empty stomach. This is about compassion, responsibility, and leadership in action. And this is only the beginning; more welfare initiatives are underway.”
The distribution exercise drew widespread participation and positive reactions from students across faculties, many describing it as timely and impactful.
Staff and beneficiaries of the mass feeding says the intervention sets a new benchmark for student-centered governance at OAU and signals a proactive approach to welfare support within the Students’ Union.
