Messi To Lose UEFA Best Player Award

In a recent announcement, the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) has revealed a new partnership with Ballon d'Or to jointly organize an awards ceremony beginning in 2024.

This collaboration effectively ends the tradition of UEFA's annual award, which means that Lionel Messi will no longer have the opportunity to win the UEFA Best Player of the Year award.

UEFA's official statement regarding this partnership with Groupe Amaury, the owner of media companies France Football and L'Équipe, reads as follows:

"UEFA and Groupe Amaury, owner of media companies France Football and L’Équipe, have today announced a partnership to co-organise the renowned Ballon d'Or® from 2024.

Together, UEFA and Groupe Amaury aim to enhance the stature and global reach of the awards while fostering a sense of unity and collaboration within the football community."

As part of this agreement, Groupe Amaury will retain ownership of the Ballon d'Or® brand and continue to oversee the existing voting system, maintaining its independence. UEFA's role in this partnership will involve leveraging its football expertise, managing global commercial rights, and organizing the annual awards gala.

The implications of this collaboration are significant, as it signals the end of the UEFA Best Player of the Year award, impacting players like Lionel Messi who previously competed for this prestigious title.
