US Police Arrest 14-Year-Old Student After School Shooting Leaves Four Dead, Nine Injured

A 14-year-old student of Apalachee High School in Winder, Georgia has shot two students and two teachers to death. According to Georgia Bureau of Investigation Director Chris Hosey, Nine people were hospitalized, four with gunshot wounds, the bureau said. The suspected shooter, a 14-year-old student at Apalachee, was taken into custody by the school resource officer who engaged him, Barrow County Sheriff Jud Smith said at a news conference. The High School received a phone call this morning warning there would be shootings at five schools and that Apalachee would be the first, law enforcement sources in Georgia told CNN. The shooting is at least the 45th school shooting in 2024, according to a CNN analysis.

Calabar Residents Lament Scarcity, High Cost of Petrol

Some residents of Calabar have lamented the high cost of Premium Motor Spirit, also known as petrol, describing it as highly worrisome. The residents who spoke to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday also expressed worries that the product was scarce even when being sold at between N880 and N950 per litre. NAN reports that some motorists arrived at the NNPC station in Stadium Junction as early as 3.00 a.m. to queue up and wait for sales to begin. Speaking to NAN, Mr Johnson Effiong, a motorist, expressed worries that petrol was not being sold to customers even when the station got supplies on Monday. “We saw petrol being discharged on Monday; based on this, I came here at about 3.00 a.m. to queue up, but they have yet to commence sales. “The pump attendants are here, but they are not dispensing products to customers. The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has stated that he is happy working for President Bola Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress government. Wike, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party and the only opposition member in Tinubu’s cabinet, made this remark on Saturday during the PDP Congress in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital. The former Rivers State Governor asserted that he remains unapologetic about working for the Tinubu administration, despite the criticisms following his appointment. According to the minister, he has no regrets about his decision and is satisfied with his position in the current administration. He said, “We are fully in government. We are fully in Tinubu’s government. I have no regrets about it, and I will continue to be there.
