OAU Decides 2024: Voting Ends As Electoral Officers Begin Collation of Results

The election for hostels' representatives at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) has concluded, with electoral officers now beginning the collation of results from various halls of residence.

Osun Defender observed that the election was initially scheduled to end at 3 pm, as announced by the electoral officers prior to the commencement.

However, voting concluded slightly beyond the scheduled time in some of the residences. Voting ended at 3:12 pm in Awolowo Hall of Residence, 3:38 pm in Moremi Hall, 3:06 pm in ETF Hall of Residence, 3:15 pm in Alumni Hall of Residence, and exactly at 3:00 pm in both Akintola Hall and Fajuyi Hall of Residence.

Electoral officers have commenced counting unused ballot papers in all halls of residence, including Awolowo Hall, Alumni Hall, Akintola Hall, and others.

It was reported that one ballot paper at Alumni Hall was declared void because the voter failed to place it in the ballot box.

It was learned that election at Mozambique Hostel has hit a snag as voting is yet to conclude due to a delay in the accreditation process. The warden of the hall of Moremi hall noted that the person with the key to the room containing the necessary materials is not present, and is currently on their way back to campus.

The election, which featured various candidates vying for positions as hostel representatives, was noted for its peaceful and orderly conduct, with students casting their votes in a calm and serene atmosphere.

As the collation of results continues, anticipation grows among the candidates and their supporters. The outcome of the election is eagerly awaited, with many expecting a close contest for the key positions.

Electoral commissioners were observed calling the agents for each candidate aside before commencing the counting of ballot papers and votes.

Why I Slipped, Fell At Eagle Square - Tinubu Opens Up

President Bola Tinubu has responded to the viral video of him slipping while boarding the presidential vehicle at Eagles Square in Abuja.

Tinubu jokingly referred to the fall as a "swagger" and explained that as a traditional Yoruba boy, he was performing a customary greeting called "dobale" to mark Democracy Day.

Tinubu made this known during the state Banquet Dinner at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, to mark this year's Democracy Day.

With a dash of humour, Tinubu said, "Early this morning, I had a swagger and it's on the social media. They were confused about whether I was doing Buga or doing babariga, But, It is a day to celebrate democracy while doing "Idobale" for the day.

"I am a traditionally Yoruba boy and I did my 'Idobale"

Recall that Tinubu approached the vehicle shortly after he arrived at the venue of the 2024 Democracy Day, but lost his footing momentarily as he was about to step into the vehicle.

However, despite the slip, the President regained his balance and continued with the proceedings.
